World of Warcraft

Well I may not have either the technological or financial means to actually be able to have a chance of getting to play this game when it arrives, but I can still gaze at the screenshots at yearn and whimper a bit. This is after all being developed by Blizzard, and since Diablo and Diablo II and suchlike I'm quite able to imagine that this could be, perhaps, the best MMORPG yet developed.

So yeah.. it may be a while though until I get the chance to go anywhere near it... so I'm just going off to whimper for a while... but me thought I might bring it to peeps attention. The screenshots do look pretty gorgeous and the control systems and interface all seem to be very keenly devised. Worth the monthly fee to play? Heh... of course had I the means and skills and make my own little world to play in... but I do have something special devised in my dreamland castle for my afterlife.... but... umm... yes... that's besides the point... anywho.. it is still sure to be good methinks. :)

I am fond of such games but I'd never pay a monthly fee for it especially when you have to buy the game in the store as well.

I can see why it'd need monthly funding to support new worlds and insure servers but I'd definately want a multiplayer mode that didn't require a fee to come along with it but I'm not sure about that. I suppose I should read further into it and stick to the free, play-whenever-you-want solo/online games =).

I agree with Enigma on the subject of monthly fees and would be why I don't already own FF11.

Aside from that, I am a hundred more times fond of Starcraft. :P

Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. Well I'd take the fantasy theme over science fiction any day. And yes monthly fees may seem like a little too much, but mayhap there will be a difference in quality as to how the realm is updated and expanded. Not that I'll be able to find out ever but still... I can dream... :P

Monthly fees are definitely brutal, especially when combined with the constant expansions that are needed to play many of the MMORPGs these days.

That being said, even the least developed of them still offers a richer, more diverse, and vastly more compelling universe than the best of the single player RPGs, primarily because AI has not reached a point in games where it proves even the slightest challenge to intelligent players on anything near a consistent basis, and programming does not come close to simulating the social and economic dynamics of player driven interactions.

i've watched friends play everquest for hours, some massively boring shit as they sit for hours getting ready for some fight, chat with their friends, then there's a fight and they get some treasure
yeah, that's compelling

Well with the mmorpg's, it's not like I have friends anyways, so it's something to do. And I don't like sitting in front of the television being brainwashed.

I`m totally too cheap to get into a MMORPG. That and I dont like the idea of playing with people who are rude, stupid or like to PK anyone and everyone.
I must say I'm surprised at how readily you boys bastardized your code of ethics in order to justify a morally dubious decision.
That was very grown-up of you.

Everquest made some very fundamental mistakes with game design as they expanded that cumulated in the need for 6-10 hour raids of 30+ people. Most other MMORPGs have learned from that and I doubt you'll see that much in the future. Some people do like it, but I'm certainly not one of them...

I've been watching a few people beta World of Warcraft and it looks REALLY good. Almost has a console feel to it, with an emphasis on allowing players to do things other than fight... It's supposed to be out in December but we all know how that goes.

I just flirt with MMORPGs these days. I've done my tours of duty and I prefer this world. :)

Pretty much covers about 99.8% of people online, doesn't it? :)

Yeah but 30% of them are just responding to some other clown. Trolling the troll and so on.

Holy crap I really ate my words on this one!

If this were a short movie about a true story, my ending would be:

"And Jay ended up being lured into the game by his best friend. He is now horribly addicted but is drama-free as a result."

Ha! It's the only game I have any interest in now especially with Lich King coming out in a week or so. I totally got over my "care-bear" attitude toward PVP when I realized it wasn't retarded like Diablo's was. Now I get to run around stomping gnomes!

FOR THE HORDE!
